A new 22-nm microprocessor, under the code name “Ivy Bridge” will be the first chip in mass production in three-dimensional use the Tri-Gate transistors.

Diario Ti: Intel Corporation has announced a major leap in the evolution of the transistors. For the first time since the invention of silicon transistors, Intel will begin mass production of transistors made with three-dimensional structures.

Thus, the company will introduce a three-dimensional transistor design, called Tri-Gate, which the company already raised for the first time in 2002, and produced in large volumes in 22-nanometer node for a generation of chips that Intel has christened codenamed “Ivy Bridge.”

“Scientists and engineers at Intel have reinvented the transistor, this time they have done by opening the third dimension,” said Paul Otellini, president and CEO of Intel. “The potential of these new transistors will help create incredible change devices the world and allow us to continue fulfilling Moore’s Law entered new fields, “he said.
