What is 3D TV?
The term 3D TV refers to a set of technologies, applied to the traditional TV set LCD type with LED or Plasma (PDP), watching movies, TV channels, videos and games with a visual effect of ” depth “effect that the human brain associated with the format (3D) with the ability of stereoscopic vision.
What technology do you use?
The technologies now allow the display of images in three dimensions on a flat TV based on the principle of stereoscopic vision (stereopsis). The distances between our eyes is approx. 6 or 7 cm, which displays the same object or landscape from two different angles (parallax), our brains instantly brings those two images and gives us the optical perception of “depth”. Existing technologies which use the principle of stereopsis are: the traditional anaglyph , the autoestereoscopia, polarization, “Shutter” (or active glasses). The new 3D TV technology rely on shutter (in Spanish “blind”).
How does a 3D TV?
A 3D TV in our eyes sends two frames of the same shot with the only difference in the angle of approach: a frame for the right eye and one for the left and so on alternately (at the time of shooting a 3D movie need two cameras for each approach or a camcorder 3D). Being the same power (eg a sunset, a landscape, an object) from different angles, the slight lateral displacement, or overlap of images is interpreted by our brain as a single representation, which gives us ” illusion “of 3D. In summary, the brain believes that the flat image has depth. Naturally the whole process is so fast that the human eye does not distinguish between the two images, unlike the “melt” into one. Why do I need glasses?
What good are your glasses? Do I need to buy 3D TV glasses? Yes, for movies, TV channels, video games or 3D glasses are necessary specific, known or active shutter glasses, also known as ” active shutter glasses “because synchronized with television eyes: when your 3D TV sends a frame (picture box) for the right eye, the lens recognizes the signal and blind the other eye, the left. The two frames are not the same shooting, recorded from two points of view, the TV sends high-speed, one for each eye, the brain melts and we get the visual impression of 3D. The shutter glasses come with the issuer (with IR or Bluetooth) connected to the TV (or incorporated) that is responsible for transmitting the TV signal. The glasses are available in different sizes, are an integrated rechargeable battery that ensures a good range of vision in 3D and cost 50 to 150 euros etre.
Are the 3D glasses come with the TV?
Some brands have decided to include at least one unit for every sale glasses 3D TVs, while others have separate glasses, others differ by model, in some stores by internet you can find offers 3D TV glasses already included.
¿I can see in 3D with my current TV?
The problem with current LED LCD TVs refresh rate is: most models offer “renew” the display 60 times per second. It is enough to ensure a good view in 2D but does not completely eliminate the problems of motion blur, the blur of moving objects (also, errónemanete called ghosting effect).
The stores already sell LCD TVs with 120 Hz refresh rates, amounts deemed suitable for 2D but not enough to correctly process “demanding” and three-dimensional images that each eye would get those 60 sweeps per second ( fps or frames per second) that we have seen, provide a smooth and undistorted vision.
To avoid duplication, flicker, or the annoying effect of blurring , you need to buy 3D TV refresh rate of 240 times per second (240 Hz real) to ensure that each eye receives the minimum number of 120 scans. For more info, read our 3D TV buying guide.
Is there no 3D upgrade kit?
I read in the manual for my TV that supports up to 240 Hz refresh, then why I can not upgrade my TV to 3D? Dressers do not currently support more frequently than 60/80 Hz input signal, what they do is interpolate images ( frames ) up to 240 Hz for example however is interpolated images (eg 1 image “invented” every 2 real images), generated using digital processing to improve the fluidity of the sequence. In contrast, the new 3D TVs require real 240 Hz (native).
How to choose?
In this paragraph you will find our tips for choosing 3D TVs, recommendations based on common user questions, “What I choose 3D TV?, What to consider when buying?, What are the technical characteristics and requirements a good device to watch videos in three dimensions?, what are the best 3D TV?”.
We start with the resolution, all the latest models take the Full HD (TV HD Ready 1080p or 1920 x 1080 pixels progressive scan). The size of a TV screen is obtained by measuring the diagonal of the display, for example a 46-inch LED panel corresponds to a diagonal of 117 cm (1 inch equals 2.54 cm).
What is the best size of a 3D TV? It depends on each buyer and especially the space available in each room, not forgetting the distance recommended by the experts: the TV must be a minimum distance of your eyes equal to three times the length of the diagonal of the panel.
We talked about the format : Currently, among all major brands TV, 16:9 is considered as the international standard for high definition television (HDTV). By the way it should be recalled that Philips is the first brand that has backed the film with its innovative format Philips Cinema 21:9 (2560 x 1080 resolution).
When buying look at the 3D TV response time (which is as low as possible) and the aforementioned frequency of soft drink which is measured in hertz (Hz) to reduce the shadows on the fast-moving streams your TV 3D new needs at least 240 Hz real (native). With reference to the brightness of image (or brightness) and contrast ratio, for higher values, the brightness is measured in cd / m² while the ratio of contrast measures the brightness of the brightest white and darkest black a 3D display. Our recommendation is: 3D television before buying ask the shop responsible for what the static contrast of the device and that the latter is often confused with the dynamic contrast.
By completing the connections, the port need to use HDMI 1.4 Blu-ray player and watch movies in 3D, to connect a gaming console or multimedia disc with 3D content. Should not miss the classic USB, WiFi wireless or Bluetooth to transfer photos, videos and music from a mobile, a camera, a computer or camcorder. 3D TVs from top brands offer the ability to surf the internet to take advantage of services like YouTube or Skype video calls, also feature a High Definition Set Top Box.
Do I need a new Blu-ray?
Yes, manufacturers are updating their Blu-ray (BD) therefore need to purchase a new appliance. The only exception is the console PS3 , Sony will make available an updated firmware that allows viewing of 3D content. As confirmed by the company, this update will see 1080p content directly from a BD disc but will not be the same for the most demanding 3D games, due to its high requirements, will probably drop the resolution and frame rate of 1080p – 60 fps 720p – 30 fps.
¿HDMI 1.4 or HDMI 1.3?
According to the technical specifications of HDMI 1.3, the latter supports 3D content ready 1080p HD resolution. We say “in theory” because in practice remains to be seen, depending on how the signal is encoded 3D, TV type, etc. .. The official version is that HDMI 1.3 will see in 3D but with lower resolution 1080i if the source is a Blu-Ray or satellite TV, 540i if the signal is coming from cable box. All new 3D TVs have HDMI 1.4 port.
